Marrakech to Agadir is a well-travelled route down to Morocco's main Atlantic beach resort, and unlike many of the country's longer hauls, it has no rail link at all — this corridor is coach and road only, plus a short domestic flight if you'd rather skip the drive. Here is how the realistic options compare.

The easiest way: the Supratours or CTM bus

Supratours — the coach arm of Morocco's rail operator ONCF, designed specifically to extend the rail network's reach to towns without a station — runs frequent, comfortable coaches from Marrakech to Agadir, taking around 3–3.5 hours. Because Agadir has no train station, Supratours effectively acts as the rail-connected option here, and tickets can be booked through the same system as ONCF train tickets, which makes it convenient if you're already using Moroccan rail for other legs of your trip.

CTM, Morocco's main independent coach operator, runs a comparable service on the same route and similar journey time, with modern air-conditioned coaches and a handful of daily departures. Both operators are reliable, reasonably priced and the standard way most travellers — and plenty of locals — make this trip. Book a day or two ahead in peak season (particularly around Moroccan public holidays), though same-day tickets are often available outside busy periods.

The scenic (and longer) way: driving

The drive covers around 250 km and takes roughly 3–4 hours, climbing over the western end of the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Test or, more commonly used by most drivers, a route that skirts the mountains further west — check current road conditions before choosing your road, as the higher passes can be affected by weather. Having a car gives you the flexibility to detour to Taroudant, the walled "grandmother of Marrakech," or stop in the argan-oil country along the way, which the direct coach doesn't allow. For general guidance on driving conditions, tolls and rules in the region, see our driving in Jordan guide as a comparable example of desert and mountain driving elsewhere in the region.

Mountain roads need care: If you take a route over the Atlas passes rather than the lower coastal-facing road, allow extra time for winding sections and check conditions ahead, particularly outside summer months.

The fastest way: flying

Domestic flights between Marrakech and Agadir take around 45 minutes to 1 hour, though given how short and well-served the bus route already is, flying rarely saves meaningful time once airport transfers and check-in are factored in, and it typically costs considerably more. Flying only really makes sense if you're connecting from an international flight into Marrakech and continuing straight on, or if Agadir is a short stopover within a longer domestic itinerary that already involves flying.

No train — why, and what that means

Agadir has never been connected to Morocco's ONCF rail network, largely a legacy of the city's near-total rebuilding after the devastating 1960 earthquake, after which growth patterns and priorities shifted. This is why Supratours exists as it does — a coach service purpose-built to extend rail ticketing and connections to towns the tracks don't reach. If you're planning a longer Moroccan rail itinerary and wondering how Agadir fits in, our Morocco by train guide covers the ONCF network, the Al Boraq high-speed line, and where Supratours coaches pick up the slack.

Arriving at Agadir–Al Massira Airport

If you choose to fly, Agadir's Al Massira Airport sits around 25 km southeast of the city centre, and a taxi or pre-arranged transfer is the standard way in — there is no rail or dedicated express bus link, unlike the airport transfers covered in our Marrakech airport to the city guide for the other end of this route. Confirm your transfer in advance if arriving late, since taxi availability outside peak arrival times can be thinner than at Marrakech's much busier Menara Airport.

Combining this route with the rest of the coast

Agadir is often one stop on a longer Atlantic-coast itinerary rather than an endpoint in itself. Heading north, Essaouira is a popular add-on, reached from Marrakech directly or via Agadir on the same CTM and Supratours networks; heading south, the surf town of Taghazout and the road toward the Sahara-fringe town of Tiznit both extend naturally from Agadir. If your trip continues further afield into the desert, our Marrakech to Merzouga guide covers that very different eastbound route over the Atlas to the dunes, for comparison. And wherever your route through Morocco runs, check current visa and entry rules in our North Africa entry requirements guide before you travel.

Which should you choose?

For nearly all travellers, the Supratours or CTM coach is the simplest and most sensible option — comfortable, frequent, reasonably priced and not meaningfully slower than driving. Choose to drive yourself if you want to detour via Taroudant or the argan-oil region, and only consider flying if you're threading Agadir into a wider domestic-flight itinerary. From Agadir, the coast stretches south towards Essaouira in the other direction and Taghazout's surf beaches nearby — both easily reached by onward coach or taxi once you arrive. If you're weighing this trip against Morocco's other classic road routes, see also Marrakech to Essaouira and Marrakech to Casablanca for how the country's road and coach network connects up more broadly.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the bus take from Marrakech to Agadir?

Around 3–3.5 hours on Supratours or CTM, both running several daily departures.

What is Supratours and how is it different from a normal bus company?

Supratours is the coach arm of Morocco's rail operator ONCF, designed to extend train ticketing and connections to towns without a station, such as Agadir. It runs alongside independent operators like CTM.
